Solidion Technology is a U.S.-based leader in solid-state and sodium-ion battery innovation, backed by over 525 patents and award-winning research. As the company prepared for its IPO and entry into the public markets, it needed to strengthen its positioning with a visual identity that communicated innovation, sustainability, credibility, and leadership—while appealing to a diverse set of investors in a highly competitive energy market.
Discovery
In the discovery phase, we synthesized industry research, competitive analysis, and collaboration with Solidion’s stakeholders to define the company’s unique position in the energy market. We developed audience segments that represented diverse investor categories—ESG-focused, tech-forward, risk-averse, and strategic—and empathized with their distinct needs and expectations, ensuring all perspectives were addressed from the start. To deepen this understanding, we reviewed investor behavior studies showing that ESG investors prioritize transparent sustainability, tech-forward investors demand disruptive innovation with a path to scale, risk-averse institutions look for credibility and proven IP, and strategic partners invest where leadership and long-term synergy are clear.
Challenge
Building on these insights, we defined the challenge as creating a visual identity that authentically expressed Solidion’s core values of innovation, sustainability, credibility, and leadership. At the same time, the identity needed to differentiate Solidion in a crowded competitive landscape and resonate across all investor segments—addressing ESG investors’ demand for measurable sustainability, signaling technological leadership to tech-forward investors, providing the credibility and stability required by risk-averse institutions, and projecting the market leadership that strategic partners seek.
Ideation
With the brand values and investor needs clearly defined, we explored design concepts that could bridge the two. Ideas such as a hexagonal crystal motif conveyed technological innovation and scalability that appealed to tech-forward investors, a deep blue palette symbolized the credibility and trust sought by risk-averse institutions, and the Avenir typeface expressed a forward-looking vision aligned with strategic investors’ search for leadership and long-term growth. Each design direction was evaluated not only for visual impact but also for how effectively it mapped to the behavioral insights uncovered for each investor segment.
Concept Development
We translated these ideas into mood boards and visual identity concepts developed through a fast-paced, collaborative brand sprint with Solidion’s leadership team. Each prototype tested different combinations of motifs, colors, and typography, allowing stakeholders to see how the brand values and investor insights could be expressed visually and refined through iteration. This ensured every design decision was informed by both Solidion’s values and data-informed behavioral insights of its target investor segments.
Execution & Results
Three concept directions were presented and refined through collaboration with the C-suite, leading to one unanimously approved identity. The final design elevated Solidion as an innovative leader in renewable-material batteries, with each element aligned to investor priorities: renewable storytelling for ESG investors who demand transparent sustainability, the crystal motif for tech-forward investors seeking innovation and disruption, deep blue for risk-averse institutions valuing trust and stability, and Avenir for strategic partners seeking a clear marker of leadership and growth. The work culminated in Solidion proudly unveiling its new visual identity at the Nasdaq bell-ringing ceremony in Times Square, marking its public debut with confidence and clarity.
The Future
Following its merger and Nasdaq debut, Solidion is focused on commercializing EV battery components—anodes, cathodes, and electrolytes—as the first step toward full solid-state batteries. With a 55,000-square-foot production facility, over 550 patents, and plans to add 100 jobs, the company is projecting rapid growth and market leadership. Backed by a comprehensive visual identity system and extended visual language aligned with investor behaviors and priorities, Solidion is positioned to attract the capital and partnerships needed to deliver on its vision of making EV batteries better, safer, and more sustainable.
